Ruta de los Siete Lagos - A dream of lakes, mountains and Argentinian hospitality

After an exciting border crossing from Chile to Argentina, our first stop was Villa La Angostura – the gateway to the famous Ruta de los Siete Lagos. This fantastic route along the Argentinian Ruta Nacional 40 connects San Martín de los Andes with Villa La Angostura and leads through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Patagonia.

With its 107 kilometers of spectacular lakes, dense forests and snow-capped mountains, this route is an absolute highlight for nature and road trip lovers. But before we set off, we first had to arrive in Argentina.

First stop: Villa La Angostura - shopping, money exchange & beef

As always, going shopping and changing money in a new country is a bit of an adventure. Our first port of call was the Anónima supermarket to replenish our supplies.

And what can we say? Argentina keeps its promises – especially when it comes to beef! The quality was incredibly good, but we were also surprised by the prices: our weekly shop cost the equivalent of around 180 euros – more than expected, as the peso has recently been revalued and is therefore no longer quite so cheap for tourists. Especially important for Monika: good coffee was available! However, we discovered that coffee filters are in short supply here. Fortunately, other travelers assured us that this would change in Brazil at the latest.

The Ruta de los Siete Lagos - A dreamlike journey through Patagonia

Our next few days were spent on the famous Ruta de los Siete Lagos – and what can we say? This landscape is simply a dream.

We passed a total of seven beautiful lakes on the route:

Lago Lácar
Lago Machónico
Lago Falkner
Lago Villarino
Lago Escondido
Lago Correntoso
Lago Espejo

We met relatively few international overlanders here, but all the more Argentinian campers – and they really are on the road with some automotive treasures. Old, well-maintained vehicles, often restored by themselves – simply beautiful to see!

And what we quickly learned:

In Argentina, people help each other.
A meal that is not „asado“ (barbecue) does not count.
Mate tea is more than just a drink, it is an expression of friendship and conviviality

San Martín de los Andes - Break, cake & salsa

At the end of the route, in San Martín de los Andes, we took a short break. And then came the surprise:

We found a totally lovely salsa community!

We have often been to festivals, but we have never received such a warm welcome as here. We were introduced to everyone and we were looked after very warmly – a genuine Argentinian warmth that left a deep impression on us.

And of course we had to try another important thing: Argentinian cakes! Conclusion: You can also eat excellent cakes in Argentina!

Tras un emocionante paso fronterizo de Chile a Argentina, nuestra primera parada fue Villa La Angostura, la puerta de entrada a la famosa Ruta de los Siete Lagos. Esta fantástica ruta por la Ruta Nacional 40 argentina conecta San Martín de los Andes con Villa La Angostura y atraviesa uno de los paisajes más bellos de la Patagonia.

Con sus 107 kilómetros de espectaculares lagos, densos bosques y montañas nevadas, esta ruta es una atracción absoluta para los amantes de la naturaleza y los viajes por carretera. Pero antes de partir, primero tuvimos que llegar a Argentina.

Primera parada: Villa La Angostura - compras, cambio de moneda y carne vacuna

Como siempre, ir de compras y cambiar dinero en un país nuevo es toda una aventura. Nuestra primera parada fue el supermercado Anónima para reponer provisiones.

¿Y qué podemos decir? Argentina cumple sus promesas, ¡sobre todo en lo que se refiere a la carne de vacuno! La calidad era increíblemente buena, pero también nos sorprendieron los precios: nuestra compra semanal costó el equivalente a unos 180 euros, más de lo esperado, ya que el peso se ha revaluado recientemente y, por tanto, ya no es tan barato para los turistas. Especialmente importante para Monika: ¡había buen café! Sin embargo, nos dimos cuenta de que aquí escasean los filtros de café. Afortunadamente, otros viajeros nos aseguraron que esto cambiaría a más tardar en Brasil.

La Ruta de los Siete Lagos - Un viaje de ensueño por la Patagonia

Los días siguientes los pasamos recorriendo la famosa Ruta de los Siete Lagos, y ¿qué podemos decir? Este paisaje es sencillamente de ensueño.

Pasamos por un total de siete hermosos lagos en la ruta:

Lago Falkner
Lago Villarino
Lago Escondido
Lago Correntoso
Lago Espejo

Aquí conocimos relativamente pocos overlanders internacionales, pero sí muchos campistas argentinos, y realmente viajan con algunos tesoros automovilísticos. Vehículos antiguos y bien mantenidos, a menudo restaurados por ellos mismos, ¡simplemente hermosos de ver!

Y lo que aprendimos rápidamente:

En Argentina, la gente se ayuda mutuamente.
Una comida que no sea „asado“ no cuenta.
El mate es más que una bebida, es una expresión de amistad y convivencia

San Martín de los Andes - Pausa, tarta y salsa

Al final de la ruta, en San Martín de los Andes, hicimos una breve pausa en el viaje. Y entonces llegó la sorpresa:

¡Hemos encontrado una comunidad salsera totalmente encantadora!

Hemos viajado a menudo a festivales, pero nunca habíamos recibido una acogida tan cálida como aquí. Nos presentaron a todo el mundo y nos atendieron con gran afecto, una calidez genuinamente argentina que nos dejó una profunda impresión.

Y, por supuesto, teníamos que probar otra cosa importante: ¡los pasteles argentinos! Conclusión: ¡también se pueden comer tartas excelentes en Argentina!

Nach einem aufregenden Grenzübertritt von Chile nach Argentinien führte unser erster Weg nach Villa La Angostura– dem Tor zur berühmten Ruta de los Siete Lagos. Diese traumhafte Strecke entlang der argentinischen Ruta Nacional 40 verbindet San Martín de los Andes mit Villa La Angostura und führt durch eine der schönsten Landschaften Patagoniens.

Mit ihren 107 Kilometern voller spektakulärer Seen, dichten Wäldern und schneebedeckten Bergen ist diese Route ein absolutes Highlight für Natur- und Roadtrip-Liebhaber. Doch bevor wir uns auf den Weg machten, stand erst einmal das Ankommen in Argentinien an.

Erster Stopp: Villa La Angostura – Einkaufen, Geld wechseln & Rindfleisch

Wie immer ist es ein kleines Abenteuer, in einem neuen Land erst einmal einkaufen zu gehen und Geld zu wechseln. Unsere erste Anlaufstelle war der Supermarkt Anónima, um unsere Vorräte aufzufüllen.

Und was sollen wir sagen? Argentinien hält, was es verspricht – besonders in Sachen Rindfleisch! Die Qualität war unglaublich gut, aber auch die Preise haben uns überrascht: Unser Wocheneinkauf kostete umgerechnet etwa 180 Euro – mehr als erwartet, da der Pesos zuletzt aufgewertet wurde und somit für Touristen nicht mehr ganz so günstig ist. Besonders wichtig für Monika: Guter Kaffee war zu bekommen! Allerdings mussten wir feststellen, dass Kaffeefilter hier Mangelware sind. Aber zum Glück haben uns andere Reisende versichert, dass sich das spätestens in Brasilien ändern wird.

Die Ruta de los Siete Lagos – Eine traumhafte Reise durch Patagonien

Unsere nächsten Tage gehörten der berühmten Ruta de los Siete Lagos – und was sollen wir sagen? Diese Landschaft ist einfach ein Traum.

Auf der Strecke passierten wir insgesamt sieben wunderschöne Seen:

Wir trafen hier relativ wenige internationale Overlander, dafür aber umso mehr argentinische Camper – und die sind wirklich mit einigen automobilen Schätzen unterwegs. Alte, gut gepflegte Fahrzeuge, oft noch selbst restauriert – einfach schön zu sehen!

Und was wir schnell gelernt haben:

In Argentinien hilft man sich gegenseitig.
Ein Essen, das nicht „Asado“ (Grillen) ist, zählt nicht.
Mate Tee ist mehr als nur ein Getränk, er ist ein Ausdruck von Freundschaft und Geselligkeit

San Martín de los Andes – Pause, Kuchen & Salsa

Am Ende der Strecke, in San Martín de los Andes, gönnten wir uns eine kleine Reisepause. Und dann kam die Überraschung:

Wir fanden eine total liebe Salsa-Community!

Schon oft waren wir auf Festivals unterwegs, aber so herzlich wie hier wurden wir noch nie aufgenommen. Wir wurden allen vorgestellt, es wurde sich rührend um uns gekümmert – eine echte argentinische Herzlichkeit, die uns tief beeindruckt hat.

Und natürlich mussten wir noch eine weitere wichtige Sache testen: Argentinische Kuchen! Fazit: Auch in Argentinien kann man hervorragend Kuchen essen!
